Planning that special day

PARKER COUNTY — More than 15 countries around the world to celebrate the art of love via Valentine’s Day.

In Weatherford and Parker County, several businesses, restaurants and venues will open their doors beginning this weekend to commemorate the holiday.

“We’ve already started taking reservations and business has been pretty steady,” Fish Creek owner Joseph Lane said. “It’s always busy around this time of year.”



Dining Options

While the area has several eating establishments to choose from on a regular basis, here are some options for Valentine’s Day specials.

Fish Creek

Fish Creek will be offering a special menu of Chilean sea bass over truffled orzo with grilled asparagus, from Friday through Tuesday. Items from the restaurant’s main menu will also be available.

“Where some places run a set menu, we’re offering our regular menu and then a featured course,” Lane said. “Our sea bass dish will run from $30 to $35 per person, but we try to accommodate all price points.

“With it usually being so busy, we’re encouraging customers to make reservations.”



Wild Mushroom

While the Wild Mushroom provides a quality dining experience each night, customers will be able to enjoy music with their dinner Saturday and Tuesday evening. Harpist Sydney Howell, area performer and former TCU harp instructor, will provide the music, which includes a medley of romantic songs.

Friday and Saturday, which have limited dinner slots, will have a set four-course Valentine’s Day menu with a variety of options, for $65 per person. Wild Mushroom is also offering wine pairings with the dishes, for $20 more. The set menu will also be served Sunday through Tuesday.

“Any special occasion is a night to come to the Wild Mushroom,” co-owner John Shepherd said.

Seating is filling up quickly, Shepherd added, and reservations are required.



Chandor Gardens

Chandor Gardens, home to a mixture of Chinese architecture, a 30-foot waterfall and a formal English Garden, is offering a Valentine’s Day Brunch Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“This is our second year to do it,” manager Karen Nantz said of the event. “We were loaded last year, and reservations for this year are limited so we’re encouraging everyone to contact us as soon as possible.”

Price per adult is $35, price for ages 6 through 16 is $15 and children 5 and under get in free. More information can be found on the Chandor Gardens Facebook page.



Gifts

Candy, cards and flowers are a traditional, yet thoughtful, way of giving to a loved one.

Flower shops all over the area are in full swing trying to prepare for the upcoming weekend.

“The weekend and the day of are usually super busy,” florist Raven Fay, of Remembrance Flower Shop, said. “Flowers make the perfect gift. Flowers can say a million words.”

Entertainment

The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 4746, is offering a variety of entertainment for weekenders.

Friday, from 7 to 11 p.m., the post is offering karaoke with DJ Barry Wolfe.

Saturday, from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m., the VFW is hosting its annual Valentine Sweetheart Dance, which benefits cancer aid and research. Cost is $5 per person.

Live entertainment in the form of the Jeremy Martin Band will be available, as well as snacks, raffles, sweetheart photos, sweethearts gifts and more. The public is encouraged to attend. For more information, contact the VFW at 817-594-7356.
