WEATHERFORD —
A 74-year-old man walking home shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday evening was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Santa Fe Drive and Briarhaven and pronounced dead at the scene.
Husni M. Adeeljalil, whose home was in the Briarwood Addition, was crossing Santa Fe after eating dinner with his family at the restaurant near the intersection, Weatherford Police Lt. Chris Crawford said.
The driver of the 2012 Ford pickup, Thomas Miller, also 74, was traveling southbound in the far outside right lane when the collision occurred, according to police.
Adeeljalil was in the area of the crosswalk, though it was not yet clear whether he was actually in crosswalk, according to Crawford.
Adeeljalil was deceased when the Weatherford Fire Department and LifeCare arrived on scene.
Police are still trying to determine who had the right of way at the time, Crawford said.
The advanced accident team responded to the scene and helped conduct a preliminary investigation, according to police.
They have no evidence leading them to believe the driver was under the influence at the time, Crawford said. "Right now it appears to be a tragic accident."
