WEATHERFORD —
As the end of summer nears, schools around the county are gearing up for the first day of school.
Weatherford ISD recently remodeled the entrance to Weatherford High School, by constructing a welcome center in front of the main gate.
“In the past, the way it’s always worked is there was someone sitting in a vehicle [in the center of the entrance] for when people would enter and exit,” Derik Moore, WISD director of communications, said. “Now, we’ve built a facility for them so they can greet you when you come in and acknowledge you when you leave.”
The structure will also double as an added security feature, providing more accountability and safety and security measures on campus, Moore said.
More cameras have also been added to the area for additional surveillance.
“We’ve still got our regular security measures, in addition to the other ones,” Moore said. “Certain gates will still be locked during the school day, and we’ll have a record of who’s coming in and out of the facility.”
The first day for all Weatherford students is Aug. 27.
