Fire claims firefighter’s home

Millsap volunteer said he was working on car when blaze claimed residence

By CHRISTIN COYNE

MILLSAP – A man who has been a firefighter with Millsap VFD for more than 10 years lost his home Tuesday afternoon to a fire.

The homeowner, Mark Anderson, who lives with his wife less than two blocks from the fire station, said he was working on a vehicle in a shed when the fire broke out around 12:30 p.m. at his residence in the 300 block of South Lamar in Millsap.

He went to the station and started the engine while waiting for other volunteers to arrive.

Much of the small wood house, particularly the front room, was involved when firefighters arrived.

However, they were able to stop the fire before it entered the bedroom and were able to salvage some items, according to Millsap VFD Assistant Chief Jeff Edwards.

One cat was found deceased while other pets were unaccounted for, according to Edwards.

Firefighters from Greenwood, Cool-Garner and Brock-Dennis VFDs also responded.

The house was reported to be insured.
