A Parker County woman died Friday as a result of her injuries she received Jan. 3 after struck by a vehicle.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled 39-year-old Cristy Crum’s death an accident.
She was pronounced dead at John Peter Smith Hospital around 2:30 a.m. Friday as a result of what the medical examiner’s office called blunt force trauma to the head and chest caused by a motor vehicle.
Crum was initially taken to Palo Pinto General Hospital by LifeCare Jan. 3 after emergency personnel received a call from a residence in the 400 block of Grover Dallas Road near Whitt shortly before 8 a.m., according to the Parker County Sheriff’s Office. She was later flown to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth in extremely critical condition, the sheriff’s office reported.
Pat Boswell said she and her husband, Elton, had been helping care for their daughter after she was disabled following an October 2006 wreck south of Weatherford.
Crum, who had many friends and loved animals, lived in a house at the end of her parents’ driveway and had a son she loved dearly, her family said.
“She really valued her independence,” Boswell said, adding that it had gotten to the point where her daughter needed more assistance.
Her mother said Crum had been having problems with medications that caused hallucinations.
On Jan. 3 she reportedly stayed the night in the same house as her parents because of the hallucinations and resulting fear, according to Boswell.
Boswell believes her daughter went outside sometime during the night with temperatures in the teens and passed out. She said the family was unaware where Crum was at the time and likely wouldn’t have found her until several hours later if not for the accident, according to Boswell.
She was lying on the ground when the incident occurred and her father found her, according to Boswell.
“She was just bumped,” Boswell said, adding that Crum didn’t appear to have any injuries and that her body temperature was around 82 degrees.
The circumstances of the incident remained under investigation Friday, according to the Parker County Sheriff’s Office.
Crum, a native of Deer Park, moved to Parker County as a teenager and graduated from Weatherford High School in 1991. She was a member at Garner Baptist Church, where visitation is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. today, according to the family.
Crum leaves behind an 18-year-old son, Dustin.
“He was her most precious possession I guess you could say,” Pat Boswell said.
Crum always spoke her mind, her older brother, Matt “Red” Boswell, said.
“It was never boring around her,” Boswell said. “She always had something going on.”
Crum was the oldest of three sisters and was an interesting person to be around with many friends, her brother said.
She loved to go to garage sales with friends and bargain for a deal, according to her family.
Prior to the accident that left her disabled, she worked at jobs at Walmart, Cash America and a resale shop.
A bit of a cowgirl who rode prior to the accident, as well, Crum loved the country because of the animals, her mother said.
She had two dogs and a particular interest in turtles, collecting them from Craigslist, friends, garage sales and even finding them herself.
“She was ready not to have pain any more,” Pat Boswell said of her death Friday. “She’ll be missed. We have a void in our lives.”
