Weatherford ISD dual language teachers sharpen skills at seminar

Weatherford ISD recently concluded a two-day training for Dual Language teachers which included consultants from the Dual Language Institute/Gomez and Gomez model.

Frances Adams, Weatherford ISD Instructional Specialist for Bilingual and Literacy Development, said approximately 50 teachers from Dallas, White Settlement, Grand Prairie, Aledo, Keller, Everman, Gonzalez and Texarkana  joined 21 Dual Language teachers from Weatherford to sharpen their skills as facilitators of the Gomez and Gomez model of Dual Language Instruction.

Consultants from the Dual Language Institute worked with teachers from pre-kindergarten to second grade on Bilingual Learning Centers and Conceptual Refinement.

Third- through sixth- grade teachers explored Bilingual Research Centers and Specialized Content-Area Vocabulary Enrichment Activities.

Adams said appropriate and consistent implementation of these components supports the district’s Dual Language Department’s mission of developing bilingualism and bi-literacy in every Dual Language student at the elementary level.
