ALEDO —
Hundreds of cyclists rode out Saturday morning in Aledo shortly after 8:30 a.m. in support of area emergency personnel.
Warm weather and sunshine greeted riders participating in the 9th annual Moritz Ride for Heroes benefitting the Aledo Fire Department, Hudson Oaks Fire Department, Willow Park Fire and Rescue, Parker County Sheriff’s Reserve and Parker County Center of Hope.
Attendance was expected to surpass last year’s ride which saw more than 500 riders despite rainy weather.
Families, groups from North Texas such as Bicycles Inc. and other riders chose from one of six routes varying from 8 miles to 82 miles on state highways and county roads starting and ending at Aledo High School.
Those finishing the 8-mile course happily waved as they neared the finish line.
Aledo firefighters cooked up a lunch of hamburgers for the riders and groups from Aledo High School set up tables and chairs at the finish line and handed out water and drinks at rest stops.
Proceeds from the race will also go to help various Aledo High School student clubs and the Texas Bicycle Coalition.

Sheriff, judge at odds over mailer
Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler sent out a statement and automatic phone calls across the county Wednesday saying he did not endorse incumbent 43rd District Judge candidate Trey Loftin, following a mailer sent by the judge’s campaign that included a quote from Fowler.
However, Loftin said Thursday Fowler made the referenced statement to a room full of people at a fundraiser for Loftin and agreed to let Loftin’s campaign quote the sheriff. - Film director looking for local actors
