Add a little spice to your Saturday evening.
To sauce up its claim as having “the Spiciest Festival Around” this weekend, Clark Gardens Botanical Park will add extra zing Saturday night by bringing the band Rotel and the Hot Tomatoes to sizzle its stage.
“This year we wanted to blow out all the stops and offer entertainment that would be a real crowd pleaser,” said Garden Director Carol Clark Montgomery of the female band that has played at two Texas governor’s inaugurations and at Dallas Cowboys pre- and post-game events.
Donning beehive hairdos and satin leopard print dresses, Rotel and the Hot Tomatoes’ three dazzling female singers play music from the ‘50s to the ‘80s.
“With a name like Rotel and the Hot Tomatoes it was a perfect fit for the festival,” Montgomery said. “Fall is an amazing time to enjoy the gardens and what better way than to experience the beauty of the gardens with great, fun, energetic music to rock the night away.”
Chosen by Harper’s Bazaar as one of the top 10 party bands in the United States, the band combines world class vocals and musicianship with stunning costumes, precise choreography, a blast from the past repertoire of songs and hilarious comedy, according to Montgomery.
The concert begins at 7 p.m. Saturday. General admission tickets are $10 per person and are valid for the entire day’s activities, which start at noon.
During the day, the gardens will host a chili cookoff, salsa tasting, children’s activities, a shopping promenade and entertainment featuring music and dance from chili lovin’ cultures, Montgomery said.
A limited number of reserved, table seats will be available for an additional $15 each or an additional $100 to reserve a table.
Montgomery said revenue generated from these events are reinvested into the garden and garden educational programs. Clark Gardens is a non-profit organization and entertains and educates over 20,000 guests per year.
