Deadline approaching for WC scholarship applications

March 15 is the deadline for students planning to attend WC in the 2013-14 academic year to apply for scholarships through the Weatherford College Foundation.

Scholarships are for first-time and continuing students alike.

Brent Baker, vice president of Institutional Advancement and director of the Foundation, wants potential students to know that qualifying for some scholarships may be easier than they think.

“Some students think that you have to have straight A’s to qualify for a scholarship, and that’s simply not the case,” said Baker. “Different scholarships carry different criteria, from area of study, geographic area, level of community service, etc.”

The Foundation has more than 100 permanently endowed and many annual scholarships. More than $115,000 a year is awarded annually through the Foundation.

“And with the success of our current capital campaign, that number will be higher next year,” said Baker.

To apply for scholarships, students may visit the WC Financial Aid office at the Weatherford campus, 225 College Park, during regular business hours.  (College office will be closed March 11-15 for Spring Break.) Students also may apply online at www.wc.edu/financialaid. Click on “WC Online Scholarship Application.”

“The best bet is to go ahead and apply regardless,” said Baker. “You might surprise yourself, and every dollar counts.”
