Wanting to remember Weatherford icon Larry Hagman in a special way has a small group of residents going before the city council Tuesday night.
Sherry Watters and Donna Tillman are expected to discuss how to honor Hagman, who passed away last month. Watters said she’d like to see a street named in his honor, statue and signage. Watters has known Hagman for more than 20 years and said last week she approached City Manager Jerry Blaisdell with her thoughts and was given approval.
The council has a lengthy agenda because of having just one meeting this month. The council’s second meeting of the month would have fallen on Christmas Day, so officials discussed having just one meeting in December at last month’s meeting.
Consideration and action upon a resolution amending the user agreement for seven baseball/softball fields at Soldier Spring Park between the city and the Weatherford Little League Association will be discussed. The city and league board decided on a one year agreement back in January with changes able to be made at the end of the year. Some minor changes to the agreement are being added on, according to a staff report. The revised agreement will be in effect for three years.
The changes were brought before the Parks and Recreation Board Nov. 29, which approved bringing the modified agreement to the council.
Council members will also consider authorizing Blaisdell to enter into an agreement with Infrastructure Management Services, LLC to update the city’s pavement and sign management systems.
The city hired a firm to perform a survey of street condition in 2006. Since then, a number of street maintenance and reconstruction projects have changed the pavement conditions. The survey will collect pavement surface data on the streets through normal wear and tear due to traffic and weather.
The survey is necessary to be able to fully implement a comprehensive pavement and sign management system, refresh data and determine changes needed to maintain data correctly in future years. As part of the contract, an inventory of all street signs, complete with GPS coordinates, is expected to be done.
The contract will be paid for out of street funds.
A change in time or date is being considered for the first council meeting of the new year, scheduled for Jan. 8, 2013.
The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m.
