Police officer transported to hospital after wreck

WEATHERFORD — A Weatherford police officer was transported to the hospital after witnesses said his motorcycle and a car collided Friday afternoon at the intersection of Palo Pinto Street and Waco Street.

Cruz Rivas, who has been a motorcycle officer with the police department for several years, was conscious and talking when an ambulance transported him to a Fort Worth hospital, Sgt. Wendy Field said.

Witnesses reported an 18-wheeler on Palo Pinto Street stopped to let a black Honda Accord that was northbound on South Waco Street cross Palo Pinto Street, according to Sgt. Dennis Whitford.

The motorcycle was reportedly eastbound on Palo Pinto Street in the outside lane and swerved in an attempt to avoid the Honda as it began crossing the roadway but glanced off the car’s bumper.

Rivas ended up on the ground in the middle of the roadway, while the motorcycle slid to north shoulder of Palo Pinto Street.
