Hudson Oaks council to meet Thursday

WEATHERFORD — Because of the Thanksgiving holiday, Hudson Oaks city councilmembers will meet Thursday at 7 p.m.

Among agenda items, a proclamation honoring City Secretary Sheila Elmore will be given. Elmore, who has been with the city for 24 years, will be retiring Dec. 31.

Elmore said it doesn’t seem like it’s been that long.

“Time flies when you’re having fun, I guess,” Elmore said.

Elmore has been working with her replacement, Shelly Major, since Oct. 1 and things have been going well, she said.

The city will be declaring a day as Sheila Elmore Day in honor of her work with the city.

In other items during a fairly light agenda, the council will consider a resolution encouraging residents to voluntarily cease feeding wildlife and starting a public awareness program on the subject.

At the council’s October meeting, an urban biologist from Texas Parks and Wildlife spoke to residents about the dangers feeding deer and other wildlife can have on an area. Feeding them can cause them become domesticated, which they are not, and breed disease, the biologist said.

The issue was brought up as residents and a councilmember have had deer follow them into their garage.  TPW said the city doesn’t really have a problem as far as overpopulation but feeding the deer, and any wild animal, is simply not a good idea.

The council decided to institute a voluntary program to not feed the animals and see if the problems cease.

Councilmembers will also consider authorizing City Administrator Sheri Campbell-Husband to enter into an agreement for engineering services with Teague, Nall and Perkins, hear a financial activity and regular monthly police activity report.

The council will also receive an update on the city’s logo design. City officials presented their initial designs to the council last month. After receiving feedback on the designs, they went back to their design firm for more work.
