Grand jury hands down indictments

WEATHERFORD — Among 28 people indicted by a Parker County Grand Jury Thursday, a Weatherford man was indicted for a Feb. 28 shooting that injured an 18-year-old man.

Stephen Mark Johnson, 57, was indicted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second degree felony.

According to the Parker County Sheriff’s Office, Johnson shot an 18-year-old man who attempted to defuse a verbal dispute around 7:30 p.m. off Ranger Highway.

The men had been drinking when Johnson reportedly became angry with a female.

When the 18-year-old man told Johnson to calm down, Johnson allegedly shot the man in the left hand with a .25 semi-automatic handgun, according to the sheriff’s office.

Johnson has been jailed with bond set at $50,000.

As reported Sunday by the Democrat, the grand jury also returned three indictments against Jeffrey Maxwell, accused of kidnapping, torturing and sexually assaulting his former Whitt neighbor and setting her house on fire.

The Air Force Academy recently graduated their first openly gay cadets. What does this signify?

Nothing. There have always been gay cadets, they just haven't been open.
A step backward. Sexual orientation issues shouldn't be a part of the military.
A step forward. The military needs to be open to people of all backgrounds.
No opinion.
