Parker County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two male adults and detained one juvenile male suspect in connection with multiple recent vehicle burglaries.
The suspects were identified as Wesley Wade Hamer, 17, of Grandbury and Jacob Grant Richard Edwards, 17, of Weatherford. Both were charged with burglary of a vehicle and possession of marijuana. Hamer was additionally charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon. The third suspect is a juvenile, so the name is being withheld.
Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said deputies responded to a vehicle burglary call Tuesday evening in the 300 block of Creek Bend Drive, in Aledo. The complainant reported that unknown suspects had been breaking into vehicles recently around the neighborhood, stealing electronics, tools and personal possessions, while setting off car alarms, according to sheriff’s officials.
Deputies canvassed the area and spotted a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted and three males were identified as the suspects. One of the suspects told deputies the trio had been driving around neighborhoods looking for unlocked vehicles and had taken items within the vehicles, sheriff’s officials said. A search of the vehicle revealed numerous hand tools, global positioning systems, flashlights, a radar detector, gloves, sunglasses, an iPod, USB cables, lighters, radios, knives and a “slim Jim,” typically used in the commission of vehicle crimes along with a bag filled with various keys, according to deputies. Deputies also said they discovered marijuana hidden inside an Altoid’s container and a set of brass knuckles, which are illegal to possess.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Hamer and Edwards remained incarcerated at the Parker County Jail. Their bond had not been set. The juvenile was released to the custody of his parents.
Fowler said several vehicle burglary cases were solved with the arrests.
“We strongly urge vehicle owners to lock their vehicles every time they exit their cars, even if it is for a short period,” he said. “We also advise citizens not to leave any items of value inside their vehicles in order to deter would-be thieves.”
