WEATHERFORD —

The City of Weatherford is sponsoring softball leagues for adults at the Ballfields of Holland Lake. Registration is now available through Sept. 10.

The men’s double header league will play Mondays, the co-ed church softball league will play Tuesdays, the men’s division plays Thursdays, and co-ed competitive and recreational teams take the field Fridays.

Each league is guaranteed an eight-game season, with opening day slated for the week of Sept. 27.

Cost per team is $280. Late registration is Sept. 13-17, and an added $50 charge per team will be tacked on.

Teams may be made up of no more than 20 players to a roster, with the minimum age of 16.

The city also offers an adult kickball league, with registration beginning Tuesday.

“This is the third time we have offered our co-ed kickball league,” City of Weatherford recreation manager Kristie Weaver said. “I’ve been with the city for nine-and-a-half years, and I know that the softball league has been going on before that.”

Registration for kickball ends Sept. 28, and games will start Oct. 5.

Cost per team is $200, and includes an eight-game season. Players must also be a minimum of 16 years of age.

During the summer season, 51 teams participated in the various leagues, and Weaver estimates fall numbers will be about the same.

“Ever since we moved it from Cartwright to Holland Lake, we have tripled the number of teams competing,” Weaver said. “Fall tends to be a little smaller because there are children’s activities and other events going on, but we’re expecting 40 to 45 teams to compete.”
