Football traffic encouraged to take exit 420

ALEDO —

The Interstate 20 road construction has wrapped up, but traffic will still be packed in the areas around Bailey Ranch and Farm Market 1187 Friday night.

Parker County rivals Weatherford High School and Aledo High School will square off at Bearcat Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Because of the volume of spectators expected, fans are encouraged to take the FM 1187 exit to the stadium.

“I don’t know how many seats [Bearcat Stadium] has, but I’m sure it’s going to be pretty full because of the rivalry,” WISD spokesperson Derik Moore said. “There’s going to be traffic regardless, but hopefully this will help to alleviate the situation.”

Fans should take exit 420 off the Interstate and make a right on FM 1187. From there, take a right at the second red light, Bailey Ranch road, and follow to the stadium. Parking at Bearcat Stadium is free.

“I don’t know the exact numbers of how many fans we had at the Stephenville game last week,” Aledo athletic director/head football coach Tim Buchanan said. “The last couple of years that we’ve played here at our stadium, Weatherford has brought about 800 people.

“I don’t know if that will change, but we’ll have a big crowd of our normal fans show up. Home side tickets are usually sold out the week of the game.”

Aledo ISD will provide complimentary shuttle buses with air conditioning from Willow Park Baptist Church, located at 129 S. Ranch House Road, or Aledo United Methodist Church at 313 Pecan St.

Buses will pick up fans beginning at 6 p.m. and drop them off south of the stadium’s front entrance before returning to the churches. The same loop will continue until 7:45 p.m. There will be one run to both churches 15 minutes following halftime. Fans will be returned to the church parking lots after the end of the game. Traffic allowing, additional returns will follow up to one hour after the game.
